Brief Posting Description
The LINK Centre seeks to make an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor to commence on 1 September 2023.
Requirements: Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field, noting that the academic research and the degree programmes are interdisciplinary in nature. Candidates should have experience in research production, research management, postgraduate teaching, research supervision, as well as administration and leadership in this field of knowledge. To be appointed as an Associate Professor, a proven publication record and/or high level research engagement/management is considered essential, and an active NRF rating would be an advantage. As the Centre supervises professionals in industry, government and the non-governmental sector, knowledge of and interaction with these institutions would be a further advantage.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate would be required to
(i) initiate new funded research projects on a regular basis,
(ii) work collaboratively to prepare and publish research-based working papers, journal articles and other scholarly outputs,
(iii) participate in and initiate collegial engagements with cognate African and international institutions,
(iv) supervise postgraduate students across a range of topics that are interdisciplinary in nature,
(v) teach postgraduate coursework and short courses in a mix of contact teaching and online learning,
(vi) initiate and implement changes in the curriculum on an annual basis, in line with developments in the key focus areas,
(vii) introduce innovative approaches to the work of the Centre. An important aspect of this position is maintaining the reputation of the Centre and actively encouraging the enrolment of students from other African countries. As this is a senior position, the successful candidate would engage in collaborative leadership with other members of staff, and mentoring where required. The successful candidate will need to play an active role in the intellectual and public life of the University and in the broad field.
