Professor Wendy Setlalentoa
Professor Wendy Setlalentoa is a distinguished academic leader, researcher and educationist with over 40 years of experience in education, including 22 years in higher education. She is a Full Professor of Science Education and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, South Africa. She recently served as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, providing strategic leadership in academic excellence, student success, curriculum innovation, teaching and learning, and institutional quality enhancement.
Her career spans pre-service and in-service teacher education, school improvement, quality assurance, academic development, educational leadership and higher education management. She has served as Senior Lecturer, Programme Head, Head of Department, Acting Dean, Circuit Manager of Schools, Whole School Evaluation Supervisor in the Quality Assurance Directorate of the Free State Department of Education, and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at CUT. This breadth of experience has given her a distinctive whole-system perspective on education, connecting classroom practice, school improvement, teacher education, quality assurance and university leadership.
Her interests include Curriculum Studies, Quality Assurance, Educational Leadership and Management, Science Education, Assessment and Evaluation, Teaching and Learning, and Higher Education Management. She is actively involved in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and serves as a mentor in CUT’s SoTL Programme, supporting academics to strengthen scholarly practice and promote evidence-informed teaching and learning.
She has contributed significantly to academic and quality assurance initiatives at institutional, national and regional levels, serving on national and regional academic and quality assurance review panels. Through these engagements, she has contributed to the evaluation and enhancement of higher education and teacher education programmes and to strengthening academic standards and continuous improvement. She is also committed to scholarly knowledge production and dissemination. She conceptualised and co-founded the Journal of Humanities, Educational Technology and Innovation (JOHETI) and serves as an Associate Editor, supporting scholarship at the intersection of humanities, education, technology and innovation. She is also passionate about academic leadership, quality assurance, digital transformation and the future of higher education, with a strong commitment to collaborative and ethical leadership.
