Prof Pamela Maseko is currently the Executive Dean of the Humanities at Nelson Mandela University. Her Scholarship Sociolinguistics and Language Policy and Planning has focused on the effects of Language and planning in education in African multilingual contexts. Recently her Scholarship has extended to socio-historical linguistics where she is using historical literacy data produced over a 150-year period to investigate socio-cultural practices of the Eastern Cape Nguni pre-colonial society.
She has published at the UKZN Press, dedicated to republishing newspaper writings of the early 19th and 20th centuries. Prof Maseko has worked at North West University, Rhodes University and the Universities of Cape Town and the Western Cape. She has also held Fellowships at the University of London’s school of Oriental and African Studies, as well as the Johannesburg Institute of Advanced Study.
